This golf tournament honors Cherokee’s Golf Pro Emeritus, Gary Toulson, the longest-tenured head professional in the 116-year history of the club. Gary’s passion for teaching is second to none, positively impacting generations of families during his 35 years at Cherokee. His dedication and work ethic bolstered his exemplary career which includes:
-
Tennessee PGA Player of the Year (1985)
-
Tennessee PGA President (1986)
-
Tennessee PGA Senior Championship Winner (1989 & 1990)
-
Tennessee Teaching Professional of the Year (1989 & 1991)
-
One of Golf Digest’s Top 200 Golf Teachers in America (2000)
-
among many other tournament wins and achievements
Unfortunately, Gary was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2006. This disease has become more and more debilitating for him as the years progress; and now, Gary is unable to play the game he truly loves. However, he still takes great joy in sharing his extensive knowledge and deep love for the game of golf.
We invite you to join us at the Cherokee Country Club on November 4, 2024, for an honorary lunch and a Shotgun Start. Tournament proceeds and sponsorships benefit PJ Parkinson’s Support, a local 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that raises awareness about Parkinson’s disease.
